Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information ThisTool ("we", "us") collects when you use thistool.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have. Questions about it? Write to contact@thistool.com.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us

Account: your name, email address, and password. Your password is stored only as a one-way hash — we can't read it.
Tool submissions: the tool's name, website, category, summary, description, logo, optional social links, and the contact email you enter. For paid plans we also record the plan, the amount, and the PayPal order ID.
Reviews: your name, star rating, comment, and an optional email address.
Ownership verification: the email address you ask us to verify, and a record of the one-time confirmation link we send to it.
Messages: anything you send us by email.

Information collected automatically

Usage data — pages visited, device and browser type, and approximate location derived from your IP address — collected through Google Analytics.
Server logs kept by our hosting provider, such as IP address and requested pages.

2. Cookies and browser storage

Session cookie: keeps you logged in and protects our forms from forgery. It is needed for accounts to work.
Analytics cookies: set by Google Analytics to measure how the site is used.
Browser storage (stays on your device): your light/dark theme choice, the tools you save with the heart icon, and a draft of the submission form so you don't lose your work.

You can clear cookies and site data, or block analytics cookies, in your browser settings. The site keeps working, though you'll need to log in again and saved tools will be removed if you clear site data.

3. How we use information

To run the directory, accounts, and tool listings.
To review and moderate submissions and reviews.
To process payments for paid listing options.
To send emails about your account and listings — such as password resets and ownership verification links. We don't send marketing email.
To prevent spam and abuse, for example by limiting how often certain forms can be used.
To understand how the site is used and improve it.

We don't sell your personal information.

4. Who we share it with

PayPal processes payments. Card and bank details go to PayPal, never to us.
Google provides Analytics and Google Fonts.
Content delivery networks serve some of the scripts and styles the site uses. When your browser loads them, those providers receive your IP address and browser details.
Hosting and email providers that keep the site running and deliver our emails.
Authorities, if we're legally required to.

What's public: published tool listings, and the name, rating, and comment on reviews you submit. Email addresses are never displayed on the site.

5. How long we keep it

We keep account and listing information for as long as your account or listing exists. Reviews stay on the tool page until they're removed. Password-reset links expire after one hour and ownership-verification links after 24 hours; once they've expired or been used they can't be used again.

6. Security

We use HTTPS, store passwords as hashes, and limit how often sensitive forms can be used. No online service can be completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

7. Your choices

You can update your name, email, and password anytime in Account Settings.
You can ask to see, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you by emailing contact@thistool.com.
To remove a tool listing, email us from your account's address.

8. Children

ThisTool isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information.

9. Third-party sites

Tool pages link to websites we don't run. Their privacy practices are their own, so please read their policies.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. Continuing to use ThisTool after a change means you accept the updated policy.
