WeChat to Markdown (wx2md)

WeChat to Markdown (wx2md) is a local-first browser extension for Chrome and Microsoft Edge that turns WeChat Official Account articles, and ordinary article-style web pages such as blog posts, news stories and tutorials, into clean files you keep on your own computer. It exists because saved bookmarks are fragile: articles get deleted, image links expire and favorites lists become impossible to search. wx2md shortens the path from reading an article to having it inside your personal knowledge base.

How it works

Open an article you have the right to access, click the extension icon and choose an export format. The extension detects the main body, keeps the title, author, publish time and source link, and preserves Markdown semantics such as headings, lists, quotes and code blocks. You can export Markdown, HTML, a PNG share card, or a PDF through the browser print dialog. Optionally, the images inside the article are downloaded and packed into a ZIP together with the Markdown file, so the article still reads correctly offline. Long WeChat articles also get a collapsible table of contents next to the text for faster reading.

Privacy by design

Parsing, conversion and ZIP packaging all happen inside your browser. Article bodies are never uploaded to a server, and basic use does not require creating an account. The tool only processes content you can already open and does not bypass logins, paywalls or platform access limits.

Who it is for

Researchers, writers, students and note-takers who build a personal library in Obsidian, SiYuan, Typora, VS Code or any other Markdown-friendly app. Exported files drop straight into a vault or folder without copy-and-paste cleanup.

Pricing

The free plan includes ten single-article exports every month with no sign-up. Paid plans add unlimited single exports and full WeChat album archiving, with volumes of twenty articles, resumable progress and incremental updates. Install it from the Chrome Web Store or Microsoft Edge Add-ons; the official website is wx2md.com.
