About WhimKid
WhimKid is an AI storybook generator that turns a story idea, a photo, or a familiar character into an illustrated children's picture book you can edit and share. It is a web app for parents and families, children's content creators, and anyone making a personalized story gift. The site is available in English and Simplified Chinese.
You choose one of five age bands: 0–3, 4–6, 5–7, 7–9, and 9–12. Each band guides vocabulary, story complexity, and page pacing so the book feels right for the child. You can save up to six reference characters per book, built from your own photos or drawings. Art styles include crayon doodle, pastel chalk, paper collage, Chinese ink wash, and anime hand-drawn.
Books typically run from 10 to 30 pages. After the first draft you can still edit the text, layout, page order, and page count. The page editor lets you regenerate a single illustration and restore earlier versions from illustration history, so you stay in control of every spread. You can add narration for one page or the whole book, plus background music, and read the book in a page-turn reader with autoplay.
Sharing is designed for families. Share links can be protected with a password and an expiry date, and access can be revoked at any time. There are six export modes: PDF with or without text, images with or without text, audio with subtitles in SRT or VTT, and video. Uploaded images are used only to generate the requested story and are never used for advertising or to train WhimKid's own models. Users can delete images, characters, and whole books, and can ask for everything associated with a child to be removed. Target ages run from 0 to 12. Privacy, terms, safety, and refund policies are published on whimkid.com. WhimKid is not affiliated with the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series.
New accounts get 100 welcome credits on sign-up, valid for 30 days, plus 10 credits you can claim each day. Credits pay for script, illustration, and narration generation. Narration costs 2 credits per request. Text edits, layout changes, and reading are not charged again. Paid monthly plans start at Lite for $9.9 per month with 1,000 credits, then Plus at $28.9, Pro at $55.9, and Max at $89.9. All paid plans unlock every style, music, and narration, with sharing, no watermark, a commercial license, and 365-day storage. Yearly billing is pay for 10 months and get 12, and extra credit packs are also sold. The pricing model is freemium.

You review the script, edit any page, regenerate one illustration if needed, add narration, then share privately or export a PDF.
